My name is Elrita Curry and I am the K-8 School Counselor for Union Prep Academy (UPA). As your School Counselor, I am very excited about the opportunity to work with students, faculty, staff, administration and families of such a great school. I WELCOME the opportunity to partner with you in the 20-2020 - 2021 school year. This year brings about challenges that we have never experienced. COVID-19 has caused us to carefully plan how our school looks and operates. Our Administration has done an outstanding job to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff. We are carefully following all CDC guidelines as outlined by wearing mask, social

My background includes 10 years of experience in the education field and a master's degree in School Counseling from Liberty University of Lynchburg, Virginia. I am licensed with the state of North Carolina as a Professional School Counselor.

As the school counselor I provide many different intervention strategies to allow children to grow in their learning environment, The Counseling Department specializes in enhancing the academic, personal/social, and career development of all our students.

 

At UPA, I am responsible for:

  1. Providing direct counseling services to students individually, through small groups, and classroom guidance

  2. Data collection, advocating, and collaboration with parents, faculty, and staff. 

  3. Providing education to support services to parents

  4. Providing consultation services to teachers

  5. Serving as Section 504 Coordinator

  6. Facilitating referrals to community support services

  7. Serve on an advisory council made up of students, parents, teachers, school counselors, administrators and community members to review and make recommendations about school counseling program activities.

I will be available to meet with any student in crisis. I have an open door policy for students. However, every attempt will be made not to interrupt core academic classes whenever possible for non-emergency situations. Please be aware there may be a time when I may speak with your student due to a self-referral, student referral, teacher/staff referral, or Administrative referral. The UPA Counseling Office is a Safe Space where ALL students are welcome.
